Workshops for College & University Faculty

Essential of a Critical Approach to Learning

Academic institutions rely on print and visual media for writing and research. Isn’t it equally important for us to assess the validity of that information? Or should we merely accept what is printed or shown in the media? Or do we go beyond the obvious by analyzing the content? Moreover, do we have the necessary tools for a strong rational thesis and conclusion? In this workshop, participants evaluate information within the diverse framework of each context using multiple viewpoints. They examine their critical approach to print and visual samples from different academic and non-academic sources.

Meeting Time Constraints with Effective Lesson Plans

Because teachers are required to cover course objectives in a specific period of time, their lessons have to be well-planned and effective. By a process of sharing, sample lesson plans are revised and updated to serve as models to implement in the classroom. In this workshop, teachers design and develop their unit of study within time constraints.

Assessment and Feedback

Students should receive a grade based on merit but do teachers satisfy this requirement? Large class sizes can often be overwhelming and complaints of inaccurate grading create considerable anxiety among students. These concerns cannot be ignored. Assessment without due diligence and without objective criteria negatively impacts learning. This workshop guides teachers through constructive grading techniques that meet the pressures of time and excessive student numbers.

Shifting Strategies for Conducive Learning in Conflict Zones

When the pressures of civil unrest in a conflict zone interfere with a learning environment, it becomes necessary to design a syllabus that minimizes the effects of random school closures. The role of a teacher has to be customized to social limitations that are imposed for the safety and well-being of residents. Shifting strategies for optimal learning where teachers are led through the process of keeping students actively engaged and on-task during long absences from school are the key objectives of this workshop.

Empathy, Intellect, and Assessment

This workshop engages teachers on how a reductive approach to assessment negates the criteria of holistic learning. Participants learn to design well-structured rubrics, which draw on multiple intelligences to generate learning outcomes, while fulfilling course objectives.

Understanding Perceptions of Religion, Race, and Gender in the Classroom

Engaging students through constructive dialogue often reveals how individual perceptions of religion, race, and gender shape learning patterns. This workshop focuses on awareness of culturally sensitive issues and builds strategies to promote healthy social interaction within a classroom setting.
