Director Profile

Tamara Kathwari is an international education specialist whose work has supported students and faculty from diverse cultural backgrounds at academic institutions in Santa Fe, Rome, New York, and India. Tamara’s earlier education in science, along with her experience in business and entrepreneurship marks her unique approach to education, one that is inclusive of diverse life experiences and incorporates a range of learning styles. Her professional support to faculty in classrooms has helped minimize cultural and linguistic barriers. She uses resources and strategies that empower students to become self–reliant learners.

Tamara’s teaching experiences in the United States were instrumental in shaping her pedagogy—in the classrooms of Santa Fe public schools that had a high student population of at-risk youth. In Rome, Italy, Tamara collaborated with international faculty to draft an ESL (English as a Second Language) curriculum for inclusion in the mainstream English classrooms. She also devised ESL strategies for inclusion in science and math classes and made several accommodations for teaching in a multidisciplinary setting.

In New York, Tamara worked in academic publishing as a writer and editor of textbooks, and with teachers in inner-city schools to implement reading and writing programs that helped students transition to a college education. More recently, she has been supporting educators in India to overcome socio-economic challenges and manage multiple tasks with fewer resources.

Tamara has a B.Sc. in Science and an M.A. in English Literature from India, and further post-graduate degrees in Education and English Literature from the United States.

Besides her work in the field of education, she continues to pursue her research interests, which include 18th-century colonial and postcolonial literature.
